Hoosic
Hoosic, a Mohican word apparently meaning rock place, is applied to both a mountain in the Berkshires and a village place east of the Hudson River. The village site is where Metacom and a large number of warriors from Wampanoag, Narragansett, and Connecticut River valley tribes wintered over during King Philips War in 1675-1676.
